Save The Zambezi Foundation
A community-driven organisation based in Livingstone, Zambia, dedicated to environmental protection, youth empowerment, animal welfare, and social advocacy along the Zambezi River and surrounding communities.

About The Foundation
Save the Zambezi Foundation is a non-profit organisation committed to protecting the natural environment while addressing the social challenges facing communities along the Zambezi River. Rooted in Livingstone, our work focuses on empowering young people, advocating for vulnerable groups, protecting wildlife, and raising awareness around issues that affect both people and the environment.
We believe conservation and community development must go hand in hand. Sustainable change happens when communities are informed, supported, and actively involved in shaping their own future.

Who We Are
Our Projects

Tree Planting
We promote tree planting initiatives that restore green spaces, protect the environment, and raise awareness about climate responsibility. By involving communities and young people, we help create a culture of environmental stewardship for future generations.

Youth Empowerment Through Sports
Through structured rugby and cycling programmes, we use sport as a positive tool to keep young people off the streets while teaching discipline, teamwork, and life skills. Our initiatives create safe spaces where youth can grow in confidence, develop leadership, and build healthier futures.

Wildlife Protection
We advocate for the protection of wildlife and natural habitats through education, community sensitisation, and responsible coexistence with nature. Our work aims to reduce human-wildlife conflict while preserving Zambia’s rich biodiversity for generations to come.
Community Care
Our community care initiatives focus on supporting vulnerable groups through awareness campaigns, outreach programmes, and partnerships. We work closely with local communities to address social challenges, promote wellbeing, and strengthen resilience from within.
SPORTS FOR DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMMES
Using Sport to Empower, Protect, and Inspire Youth
Save the Zambezi Foundation uses sport as a powerful tool to keep young people engaged, motivated, and away from negative influences. Through structured sports programmes, we provide safe environments where discipline, teamwork, confidence, and life skills are developed alongside physical activity.
Our initiatives include rugby and cycling programmes that reach young people from diverse backgrounds, offering positive alternatives to life on the streets while promoting healthy lifestyles and personal growth.
The Foundation has successfully supported a cycling festival held annually over Easter, bringing together youth, communities, volunteers , tourists and partners to celebrate sport, awareness, and unity. In addition, Save the Zambezi Foundation provides ongoing support to the Njobvu Rugby Academy, a grassroots rugby academy that caters for children from all corners of Zambia, many of whom come from disadvantaged backgrounds.
Through sport, we do more than build athletes — we build character, opportunity, and hope. These programmes help young people develop resilience, leadership, and a sense of belonging, creating pathways toward brighter and more positive futures.

Protecting What Matters, Together
Save the Zambezi Foundation exists to ensure that people, wildlife, and the environment can thrive together. Through awareness, advocacy, and action, we work to safeguard the future of the Zambezi and the communities that depend on it.
“The earth is not ours; it is a treasure we hold in trust for future generations.”
